How to Transfer Contacts/Calendar from a Blackberry to an Android Phone

Note: In order to perform this transfer the user will need an active Gmail account and both phones must have a connection to the internet. If he/she does not have a Gmail account then one must be created. They must also know the user name and password of this account. If the user does not know or have access to this information they may need to speak with one of the ingenuIT consultants regarding the set up of the account.

If a current Blackberry user is looking to change to an Android phone they will quickly notice that there is no simple way of moving their contact and calendar data to the new device. The easiest way to transfer this data from a Blackberry to an Android phone is to download and install the Google Sync application on the Blackberry in question. The application can be found at m.google.com/sync and the page must be visited using the browser on the Blackberry.

Google Sync will send all of the Blackberry contact and calendar information to the Gmail account associated with Google Sync. Once the upload is complete, the user will be able to retrieve the data by logging into their Gmail account on the Android Phone. Android phones come with the Gmail application built into the OS and there is no need to download anything else. Once the user logs into their Gmail account the phone will automatically download all of the calendar and contact information.
